My Friends’ New Book… A Good Read

The other day, the well-known book publisher, John Wiley & Sons, just released “Gravitational Marketing”, an excellent book on business marketing. Written by three of my very good friends, Joel Bauer, Travis Miller and Jimmy Vee, the book gives some great advice on what any business can do to increase the effectiveness of their marketing and to enhance their revenues and profits.
I was honored and frankly, flattered, to be referenced along with a number of other well-known and very successfull marketers as an Expert Resource when they wrote on page 44:

Pretty flattering, isn’t it?
You may be wondering why I would take the time to tell you this… to blow my own horn, so to speak.
Why? To build myself up in your eyes? To boast? To brag about the fact that someone thinks I’m a “genius”?
Not at all. That’s not my style. Anyone who knows me knows I would never do that. I’m more of a quiet, reserved and to-myself person. I don’t brag about my accomplishments or successes. It’s just not in me.
So why, then? Why do it now and run the risk of turning someone off by making them think I am full of myself?
The answer is very simple.
It’s all about endorsement.
You see, it’s not what I say about myself that counts. If I say it, I’m bragging. And you could see right through that.
What not really what other people say I can do either. That could be speculation.
What REALLY counts… and the ONLY thing that counts is what other people say I have done for them. You see, that’s proof. That’s verifiable. That’s tangible. You can see it, measure it and quantify it. And that’s so much different than just hollow words.
This concept doesn’t just apply to me. It applies to you, the business you’re in, and every other business or venture you can name. It’s all about value. Not value that you bring up. It’s about endorsed value… value that the people (clients, customers, patients, policyholders, whatever you call the people you do business with) say YOU HAVE DONE for them or others.
When they say it, it’s not bragging. It’s a statement of fact.
This is a very important business principle that very few business owners realize, understand and capitalize on. And it’s just one of many things we teach our consultants to use when working with their clients.
When business owners get other people to say quantifiable, verifiable and factual things about what their business has done for them, the game is over for their competitors.
Take out your Yellow Pages and open up your newspaper. Take a look at the ads and see how many of them have testimonials or endorsements from their clients. Betcha can’t find too many… if any. What about a written comment along with a picture of the person who said it? Don’t tell me. I already know the answer.
Get people to talk about you. Get them to tell others what you have done for them, how you’ve benefited them and how much they appreciate it. When you’ve got that going for you, momentum is on your side and it’s a free ride.
That’s what Joel, Travis and Jimmy have done for me with their endorsement of me as an Expert Resource. I don’t have to say it. They’re doing it for me. And it has tons more credibility coming from them than it does from me.
